How to Support our Project

SUPPORT

This page lists seven ways
Organizations and Individuals
can Support the UPA documentary
feature and other related projects to
uncover the Legacy of UPA Pictures.

The UPA Legacy Project has many items

for purchase, from UPA-related Items,

on our “Shop” page, to some more

general Animation-related items,

that’re on our  “Anim Sales” page,

to items we just want to clear out of

our production office to make room for

the documentary production, for any price

you’re able to afford. Those items are on our

“Spring Cleaning” page. Click one of the three shopping page buttons below. All funds go to the Documentary Feature, unless otherwise specified.

2. Purchase Collectables

The Documentary that Started it All

The stylish John Lautner designed UPA studio, unfortunately, no longer exists, torn down to build

a rather nondescript office building. But, memories of

UPA Pictures still linger, and we’ve been able to capture many of those memories on videotape, with artists who were there.  We’ve recorded over 160 interviews, and have begun the long editing process, with even more interviews we want to do. But, since the whole idea

of doing a UPA documentary is what got us rolling

on this circuitous route, that first led to the Toon

in podcasts, and then the AniMazing Spotlight

festival and feedback project, we intend to

complete this documentary ... hopefully

this year, or maybe 2014 at the most.

The Toon In to the World of Animation podcasts is where

we began to really pick up speed doing animation interviews.  Once we began interviewing former UPA animation artists, we branched out to include others in animation, international animation people who attended festivals that we attended,

in Annecy, Zagreb, Paris, Ottawa, Rio de Janeiro, Espinho, Portugal, and Melbourne, Australia. We also did a series of interviews of animation people from Disney for CTN.  The more we did, the more we began to appreciate the unique individuals that form the animation community, passionate about their craft, open to sharing their ideas and techniques, and no need for fame or fortune.  Now, there’s a bunch of great people, the best!  Click the panel to the left featuring the Toon in character to see who we’ve interviewed so far, and let us know if there are others we should interview by clicking the button below it.

We also are very interested in receiving donations of historic UPA items, from cels, storyboards, model sheets, news clippings, films, who knows what all, like this delightful holiday glass by Fred Crippen.

Some may even be used in the documentary, but

in all cases you’ll be acknowledged on this site

and in the documentary screen credits.

We are negotiating for a wonderful home for these items, where they will not only be kept in good condition, but be able to be seen by the public.  We’ll let you know when we’ve closed a deal.

If you own a theater, or run an animation school, where there’s a theater, or have a museum or concert hall that has a theater? We’ve done UPA Tributes and Presentations in all these sorts of venues.  Let us know if you’re interested in hosting a UPA event

and we can discuss how we can make

your venue and integral part of our

UPA Legacy Project.

Woodbury University’s School of Animation, in Burbank,

the home for three UPA events.

Attending a UPA Presentation, Tribute, or Retrospective

is not only enjoyable, but helps us get the word out.  Our next UPA Presentation will be in February at the Palm Springs Modernism Week, and another one will be in

July at the Bafici International Animation Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  There are still others in the works.

You can click the Modernism panel on the left to get Updates on our presentations, or click the little panel below to talk with us directly.
